Journals

To find specific journals (as opposed to individual journal articles), search:

Online Journals & Newspapers
Especially useful when you know the title of the journal and want to go straight to it online.

Orbis (Yale Library catalog)
Especially useful for locating print holdings of journals that are not entirely available online. Also includes records for online journals.

MORRIS (Yale Law Library catalog)
Includes records for online and print journals to which the Law Library subscribes.

Journal articles and more

Often, the most efficient way to find a wide range of journal articles (and working papers, book chapters, conference proceedings, government documents, and other materials) is to search within databases. Here are two different approaches to database searching:

1) Search individual international relations databases:

Here are eight that are good starting points.

These first four can be searched together (choose one, then on the search screen click "Specific Databases" to add the others). In all four of these databases, look for the "Yale Links" button to connect to full text (when available).

EconLit
Contains references to journal articles, books, articles in collective volumes and dissertations. Look for the "Yale Links" button to connect to full text (when available).

Worldwide Political Science Abstracts
Indexes 1000 journals. Topics covered include political institutions, processes, and behavior; international law and politics; public policy; public administration; political theory; and political economics. Look for the "Yale Links" button to connect to full text (when available).

PAIS (Public Affairs Information Service)
Indexes public affairs literature from more than 60 countries. Covers political, economic, and social issues. Contains references to articles, books, government documents, statistical directories, research reports, conference reports and publications of international agencies. Publications from more than 60 countries are included. Look for the "Yale Links" button to connect to full text (when available).

IBSS: International Bibliography of the Social Sciences
Indexes material from over 100 countries in more than 90 languages. The comprehensive coverage provided in the database, while based on the core disciplines of anthropology, economics, political science and sociology, also reflects the increasingly interdisciplinary nature of the social sciences.

Columbia International Affairs Online
Includes full text of working papers from university research institutes, occasional papers series from NGOs, foundation-funded research projects, proceedings from conferences, journal articles, book chapters, case studies, and policy briefs.

International Political Science Abstracts
Indexes world's leading journals in political science with over 262,700 records from more than 1,000 journals published from 1951 to the present. Searchable in multiple languages. Look for the "Yale Links" button to connect to full text (when available).

Praeger Security International
Full text material on international security, including defense and foreign policy, strategy, regional security, twentieth century military history, and terrorism.

SSRN (Social Science Research Network)
Includes abstracts of scholarly working papers and forthcoming papers, as well as an Electronic Paper Collection currently containing downloadable full text documents. Free registration required.

2) Find more databases for international relations research:

Browse Yale Library's complete list of databases (there are nearly one thousand) or search the list. Use the "Any Word" search box to find databases relevant to your topic (i.e. "congress," "international affairs," "china," "security," "european union," etc.).
