Connecticut policy and legislation
Connecticut General Assembly web site
The General Assembly's Office of Legislative Research offers useful content for finding bill numbers and for policy and legislative analysis, including:
- List of Major Acts from the recently concluded legislative session (includes bills passed by the General Assembly but vetoed by the governor) [PDF]
- Reports and bill analyses
- Summaries of public acts
U.S. federal policy and legislation
- CQ Researcher articles provide background and analysis of major policy isues. Bibliographies and notes can be useful for references to statistics, research reports, and interest groups. Articles may not be current.
- CQ Almanac provides narrative accounts of every major piece of legislation considered during a congressional session. Useful for tracing the progress of a bill and identifying bill numbers, hearing dates, report numbers.
- CQ Weekly covers congressional activities, including status of bills, votes and amendments, floor and committee activity. Good for finding out latest developments on major legislation.
All the CQ databases have a handy "CiteNow!" feature.
National Journal Group's Policy Central
Includes National Journal, which covers politics, policy, and government; markup reports; daily political news; and more. Like CQ Weekly, a good source for finding out current status of legislation.
THOMAS
Good for tracing current legislation. Includes full text of bills, committee reports, and Congressional Record.
LexisNexis Congressional
Legislative histories of enacted legislation; Congressional Research Service reports; full text of Congressional hearings, reports, documents, committee prints, and Congressional Record.
Congressional Bills: Glossary of Terms
H.Con.Res.? Engrossed in Senate? Laid on Table in House? This glossary spells out the abbreviations and provides definitions for types of legislation and common versions of bills.
